Day 1 Travel to Vancouver BC. Explore Vancouver’s recently remodeled natural history museum, Beaty Biodiversity Museum and discover the interconnections of all life forms on Earth and the role we play in preserving delicate systems. Journey through 2 million specimens including a 26-meter-long blue whale skeleton, dinosaur trackways, and fossils, mammals, and plants of all kinds from around the BC region and across the world. There are more than 500 natural history exhibits showcasing fossils and shells, mammals, birds, plants, and so much more. Check into our hotel for a one-night stay.

Day 2 Just a short drive away is the terminal where we board the BC Ferry to Nanaimo. This 2-hour Journey is considered very scenic. It offers beautiful views of the Strait of Georgia, surrounding islands, with the potential for marine wildlife sightings. Enjoy a lunch and shopping break at the Coombs General Store famous for their “Goats on the Roof”.  There’s truly something for everyone here – shops, specialty foods and gift. Take a detour to Cathedral Grove located within MacMillan Provincial Park This renowned protected area features 800-year-old Douglas firs and Western red cedars. The site offers easy walking trails on elevated boardwalk through the ancient forest. Check in for a two-night stay in Campbell River BC. Gather together tonight with fellow Explorers to discuss tomorrow’s adventure.  (D)

Day 3 In the morning, depart for our Grizzly Bear Safari. Begin with a captivating two-hour boat ride through the stunning Toba Inlet, our experienced guides join forces with Klahoose First Nation hosts at the inlet’s head, extending a warm Coast Salish welcome. We’ll then drive up the valley via forestry roads to the river’s bear viewing platforms, where you’ll have the exclusive privilege of witnessing the Grizzly Bears in their fall ritual of feasting on returning salmon. Watch these wild, beautiful bears chase and catch big salmon to fatten up for hibernation! Moms teach their cubs how to fish and survive. It is not unusual to spot 20 or more bears and cubs. These bears are NOT fenced in—this is NOT a National Geographic movie—this is REAL! A local bakery makes fresh gourmet sandwiches and cookies to enjoy during a waterside picnic. On the return, enjoy dinner at a local fresh fish and chip café in Campbell River. (B,L)

Day 4 Travel to Victoria Harbor with free time for lunch in the inner harbor area until our late afternoon ferry back to Port Angeles and evening arrival home. (B)
