Day 1     Phoenix Overnight

Early evening flight from SeaTac to Phoenix that starts with Happy Hour to get to know your fellow travelers.   S

Day 2   Sedona Trolly Tour, Red Rock Hwy 89A and Lowell Observatory    

We will get an early start to catch the early sun as we explore route 89a, considered one of Arizona’s most scenic drives and often called the gateway between the desert highlands and the ponderosa pine forests of the Mogollon Rim, to the mystical town of Sedona. On arrival, start with a guided tour enjoying views of the areas famous red rock features, learn about the Vortex and stop at Chapel of the Holy Cross. In uptown Sedona, you can explore on foot the many art galleries and shops, get psychic reading, or enjoy the serenity that Sedona provides with a glass of wine at a patio cafe. Explore Tlaquepaque, an outdoor arts & crafts village full of art galleries, craft shops, cobblestone paths & decorative arches. Continue on our scenic highway, through the dramatic canyon to Flagstaff and check in early for a one-night stay. This evening (weather permitting) Experience the historic Lowell Observatory, Lowell Observatory. Established in 1894, it is among the oldest observatories in the U.S., and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. Named one of “The World’s 100 Most Important Places”, it was here that the dwarf planet Pluto was discovered. Experience the Giovale open deck observatory with six advanced telescopes that collectively give you a viewing experience that goes far beyond seeing faint smudges of light. Day 3                  Cliff Dwellers, Dinosaur Tracks and Navajo Culture      

Walk back in time at Walnut Canyon National Monument vibrant communities built their homes in the cliffs and farmed along the canyon’s rim. Today the park preserves this landscape, and the ancestral homes allowing you the opportunity to view them up close. There are two hiking trails, one is an easy 0.7 mile paved and fairly flat round trip journey with two overlooks of the canyon. The Island Trail is 0.9 mile round trip that descends into the canyon to a rock island passing 25 ancient dwellings. This path has a total of 736 stairs, and although strenuous, even Dorothy made the loop using her cane.  If you prefer, relax at the hotel and we will swing back by to pick you up. Our afternoon includes a stop for a guided walk of the Moenave Dinosaur Tracks. From the early Jurassic period, about 202 to 200 million years ag, a local guide will join us. Several different types of dinosaurs are represented by their tracks at this site, all of them are carnivores. The hike is easy and mostly flat; it winds around several stone spires and past hundreds of tracks. Explore the Navajo Interactive Museum, at over 7,000 sq. feet, the museum features a traditional Navajo Hogan (home) and Navajo stories of creation. Your Navajo escort will help you understand the exhibits of Navajo culture, traditions, family systems and the Code Talker Museum.  Check into the Navajoland hotel for two-nights.      B

Day 4     Navajo/Hopi Loop with Hubbel Trading Post and Canyon de Chelly     

Travel along the Hopi Trading Post Trail to the oldest continuously operated trading post in the southwest, now a National Historic Site. Walk around the old homestead, which is still a living farm and ranch, and take a ranger-guided tour of the historic Hubbell home. Then squeaky wooden floors will announce your entry into the oldest operating trading post on the Navajo Nation. Hubbell’s has been serving Ganado residents selling groceries, grain, hardware, horse tack, coffee and Native American Art since 1878. During your visit watch Navajo weavers in the process of creating a rug. The rug room is filled with a variety of traditional and contemporary Navajo pieces for sale from hundreds to thousands of dollars. In another room baskets, kachinas, and jewelry by Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni artisans. After a hosted lunch. Continue the loop to the Canyon de Chelly National Monument. We will travel on the bus along the South Rim Drive featuring 7 scenic overlooks, including Tunnel, Tsegi, Junction, White House, Sliding House, Face Rock, and the iconic Spider Rock. It offers panoramic afternoon views and takes about 2 hours to complete. Return to Tuba City in Indian Trails highway.     B,L

Day 5    Navajo Guided Slot Canyon Walk, Horseshoe Bend and Kanab  

Walk through Waterhole Slot Canyon with a Navajo guide, and while it may rival Antelope Canyon’s beauty, it comes out on top in terms of overall visitor experience. Awesome photography opportunities as you wind narrow passageways and climb easy stairs through amazing red rock swirls. Your Navajo guide will share insights and great advice as to where the best photo compositions are along the trail. They will also share information on Navajo tradition as well as a naturalist perspective of the canyon. This will be exclusive experience with our group. Visit Horseshoe Bend, a dramatic 1,000-foot-deep, 270-degree horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River and one of the most photographed sites in the Southwest. It is accessible via an easy flat 1.5-mile round-trip trail and offers stunning views of emerald-green water against red sandstone cliffs. Continue to Kanab for an overnight stay.     B.L

Day 6   Zion’s Most Scenic Drive and Historic Tunnels and Kolob Canyon

The Mt Carmel highway is the most scenic part of Zion that you can simply sit in the bus and enjoy the stunning views. In order to preserve the historic features of this 10.7-mile drive and 1.1 mile tunnel, after June 7th buses and large RVs will no longer be able to travel through it. This is your last chance to experience this with us.  DO NOT miss this opportunity! You will also have time to stop at the visitor’s center, ride the park shuttle (be sure to hop off for the comfortable hike to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls and a hanging garden, and explore the shops and cafes in Springdale. This evening we will host a special dinner.   B,D

Day 7    Frontier Homestead, Petroglyphs and Dinner Sleigh Ride

Discover the pioneer and early industrial history of Cedar City, Iron County, and southwest Utah through an extensive horse-drawn wagon collection, historic buildings, Native Heritage exhibit, sawmill, and replica blast furnace. Visit the Parowan Gap Petroglyphs. It contains one of the highest concentrations of petroglyphs in the United States with over 1,500 images. Created over thousands of years, primarily by Fremont Indians after 500 A.D., the site is considered spiritual by modern Paiute and Hopi tribes features a paved trail and interpretive signs. Finish off this amazing tour gliding through the pristine slopes of Park City’s snow-capped mountains in a horse-drawn sleigh. Each sleigh is pulled by two draft horses and holds approximately 10-12 passengers. Upon arrival at the Snowed Inn Lodge, you will be welcomed by a roaring fire, live music, and a western-style meal. The evening ends with a relaxing sleigh ride back to the resort.    B.D
