The 1916 Elks Temple has been restored and reimagined and has over 1,000 unique lights of all kinds– lamps, lanterns, chandeliers, etc., illuminating nearly every corner of the seven-storied building. into a vibrant gathering place Threads of art, history and elements of the local community are woven into the structure. “We wanted to see how much fun we could pack into seven floors, so we started with a McMenamins Brewery, the Bottle Shop & Brewery Tasting Room, and The Old Hangout on the ground floor, to McMenamins Pub with expansive views of Puget Sound’s Commencement. You will have plenty of time to explore the vibrant art, vintage treasures and lunch on your own before our tour of the famous Spanish Ballroom. Continue to the Washington Museum of History to explore the special exhibit “Dressing the Gilded Age” featuring a variety of clothing and accessories, from beautifully restored dresses worn by the wealthy to everyday working-class attire. Photographs, historical advertisements, and catalogs illustrate the rise of a new consumer culture. Time for the permanent exhibits as well before our 5:30pm return home.
